  Notes	Commentary: DWD 5.652 Mary Jane Darwin was born 11 Nov. 1839 in Franklin Co., TN, where she married, 1 Jan. 1865, John W. Singer, with James M. Darwin officiating as the presiding minister. They are listed with a family of six children on the 1880 census in Falls Co., TX, where it is noted that John was a farmer, born in Pennsylvania. Their eldest daughter, Nicey, was born in Alabama about 1867, while the remainder of their children were born in Texas, from which we can ascertain that they migrated from Tennessee to Texas around 1866/67. The family finally settled in Limestone Co., TX, where at Thornton in 1890, Mary Singer applied for a widow's pension as her husband, John, had served during the Civil War as a Private in Co. F, 10th Wisconsin Infantry Regt., US Army, where he had been partially disabled from a gunshot wound. He enlisted 18 Nov. 1861 and was discharged in 1864, possibly at the time that he sustained his injury. His Regiment would have seen action against the Confederacy at the Battles of Perryville, Stone's River (Murfreesboro) and Chickamauga. I have to assume that he met Mary Jane Darwin in Tennessee at the period that he was being nursed back to health. By 1900, Mary was a widow living in the household of her son, Fred Singer, in the city of Groesbeck, Limestone Co., TX, and I understand that she died 1834/36 in East Bernard, Wharton Co., TX, where she is also buried.
